Camping!

We had our 2nd annual camping trip with friends this year.  Last year it was a bit rough for us since the kids did not handle camping well and we had to leave in the middle of the night to bring them home to sleep.  It was also SUPER hot last year, which didn't help things.  This year the temperature was much cooler, the kids were a year older and knew what to expect, and it went SO much better.  Unfortunately, the weather didn't completely cooperate.  We made it through Friday night perfectly.  We bought a new tent which had much more room in it, the girls had blow-up beds, and cooler temps helped everyone sleep through the night.  On Saturday night a storm rolled in and the rain came around midnight.  The kids started waking up one at a time, and I started getting dripped on through the tent.  The rain was out of control!  Another family had water running through their tent and they bailed and drove home.  We stuck it out for awhile but decided to drive home to get a good night's sleep (we were only 20 minutes from home) since we didn't know when the rain would stop.  We returned the next morning to a very wet tent, but managed to pack everything up and make the most of another day swimming at the waterpark at the campground.  We're already looking forward to trying it again next year! :)

Nothing like laying in the tent feeling rain drip on you :)

Road trip back to MI

I think our kids are finally getting used to the long drive from MI to NJ.  Each time we do it they get better and better.  We couldn't have asked for a better trip!  I don't know if or when we'll make the road trip again, but I'm glad our kids can handle long car rides with ease.

The Bronx Zoo

Our final "tourist" day in NJ was a trip to the Bronx Zoo.  Our kids love animals, so they enjoyed having a chance to see lots of animals, take a monorail ride, "safari" ride, and just a chance to enjoy a beautiful summer day together as a family.  Kaden even got to ride on a camel with me :)

Maya was pretty worn out from the busy day

NYC

Our next day of fun was spent in NYC.  We took the ferry over to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.  The kids thought it was pretty cool riding on the ferry and seeing how huge the SOL was in real life.  The views were great and a reminder of how much I loved growing up outside of NYC.  I wish I had taken advantage of everything there was to offer before moving away.  The good news is that they'll always be friends and family to visit when we make more trips to NYC in the future with our kids.

Waiting for the ferry ride
